Understanding Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening tool that estimates body fat based on height and weight. Healthcare providers commonly use BMI as one factor when evaluating weight-related health risks and determining eligibility for treatment options.

BMI is calculated by comparing your weight to your height. While it does not directly measure body fat, it provides a useful starting point for understanding overall weight status.

A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is generally considered healthy. A BMI between 25 and 29.9 falls into the overweight category, while a BMI of 30 or above is considered obese.

BMI is one of several factors providers consider when evaluating eligibility for medical weight loss treatment. Additional health information may also be reviewed during your consultation.

Not necessarily. GLP-1 medications may not be appropriate for all individuals. A licensed provider will review your medical history and goals before making a recommendation.
